My career has been about putting the spotlight on others, not on myself. So crafting words about my abilities as a team leader, project manager, and writer does not come naturally.
Do not take that to say that I don’t believe in myself, because I do. I am a strong and protective leader who looks for ways to build and strengthen a team. That may come from telling lame jokes to pull someone out of their shyness into the group. It certainly comes from grace under pressure that diffuses stress instead of allowing it to spread and impede the creativity of others.
It is my belief that leadership is contagious. If your team sees you as calm and even keeled, they feel safe to focus on their work. If, instead, they see you as always stressed and worried, it can cause them to get sidetracked.
I am very adept at leading long-term, complex projects that require detailed production schedules. For example, I understand that to deliver an annual vacation guide in December, schedule steps in March and August must be met.
I am a planner with sharp attention to detail. A detailed plan is a needed road map. That doesn’t mean the project will always adhere to the plan. It won’t. But having a plan in place and staying on track throughout the timeline makes the team better equipped to handle the curve balls that come.
My work has been very client focused. Both with annual custom vacation guides and social media management, the work required hand-in-glove connections with clients.
For a client to entrust you with their social media channels or with their printed vacation guide means they are relying on you to be their voice. It is a big responsibility. It means first understanding the goals, then fulfilling them. It is at its core an ongoing conversation. A conversation that manifests in design, photography, long-form articles, short-form social posts, and so much more.
Being a writer in the world of client-driven content follows a very similar path. Simply put, the job is to tell the story, not to be the story. What that means to me is stepping into the role of the client and then stepping further into the world of the subject. Not only what the story is, but, through the filter of the client and the dynamics of the audience, how it needs to be told.
If you are still reading about me, this is only a fraction of who I am and who I can be for your organization. I am passionate about learning and about sharing with others, The more we learn, the stronger we can be.
I am seasoned and have reached the point in my career where I am measuring my work in decades. That is a positive. Each job, each challenge has helped to shape me. I am strong and determined, calm and steady, caring and giving. And ready to succeed in my next role.
